Nude Seated on Decorative Chest

Here's my newest piece, done in a sort of muted, expressionist style. I think what pleases me the most about this piece is the color harmony. The most vibrant aspect is, of course, the very decorative chest upon which the figure sits, but as a whole, the colors just meld together so well, that it seems like there is real equilibrium within the picture.

Art All Night

Last weekend I participated in a very popular annual art show in Pittsburgh called Art All Night.  It is held in an area of Pittsburgh called Lawrenceville, which is undergoing it's own mini renaissance and developing into an attractive artistic hub.  The rules of the show are simple- each artist is only permitted to submit one piece of work, there is no entry fee, and the art remains hanging all night ( which, by the way, is how long the show lasts-from 6 pm Saturday evening until 2:30 Sunday afternoon.)  The show also includes musicians, performance artists and dancers, and generates quite a lot of traffic- between 7,500 and 10,000 people in just that one night!  I can't tell you how exciting it is to see all that creativity and camaraderie in one place.  It feels wonderful to both live a city that is richly steeped in the arts, and to have the opportunity to participate in my hometown.  I can't wait until next year!
