Trasparente

Some subjects just lend themselves perfectly to certain painting styles- and that was the case with this piece.  The figure is in a classic pose, draped in flowing, diaphanous cloth and leaning against a classical Grecian-esque column.  There was no question in my mind as to what my approach would be.  I wanted the finished piece to be understated in its color scheme, leaving the impact to rest totally with the figure, its pose, and the handling of the drapery.  I absolutely love black and white paintings-they can be bold and very emotional, or in this case, soft and lovely.  There is so much versatility to be had with black paint and turpentine!  As for the title, "Trasparente" is, as you can probably guess, Italian for transparent, sheer, diaphanous.
